Ghostly Enid Oklahoma
Intrigued? It's true, Enid appears to have some
ties to the spirit world…the most famous specter
being that of John Wilkes Booth. While most historians
report that Booth, notorious assassin of President
Lincoln, was shot and killed at the Garrett Farmhouse
in Virginia, there was much controversy about the
actual autopsy. As a result, others insist that he
escaped and was living under the alias of David E.
George right here in Enid OK. In his dying words,
he allegedly confessed to his landlord that he was
in fact, JW Booth. Whichever story you believe, Enid
residents claim that someone's ghost haunts the site
of the Grand Avenue Hotel where a man did commit suicide
- whether it was Booth or George is open to interpretation.
Many of Enid's historical buildings have been reported
as haunted including the Knox Building/Masonic Temple
and The [former] Gaslight Theatre, where footsteps
and sometimes yelling can be heard. Several area schools
